BDC Special Announcement

We are pleased to announce that long-time BDC Members Sabrina Schmidt Gordon and RafeƩ Kamaal have been named Co-Chairs of the Black Documentary Collective. Sabrina is a NYC-based documentary filmmaker, having produced and edited award-winning films and new media projects, including Beyond Beats and Rhymes, and Mrs. Goundo's Daughter. She recently received an NEA Grant to produce BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez, a profile of the renowned artist and activist. RafeƩ is CEO of RAKA International Inc., a New York based multimedia, multi-platform, interactive, production, programming, distribution, marketing and electronic commerce enterprise. He is the Associate Producer of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's basketball documentary, On the Shoulders of Giants.

Mary Lou Williams is one of the greatest jazz artists of any time. As both a pianist and composer, she was a wellspring of daring and creativity who helped shape the sound of 20th century America. Mary Lou Williams: The Lady Who Swings the Band follows a jazz icon who was determined to create in a world that could not see past her race or gender.

The CPB/PBS Producers Academy has been developed for producers who create or intend to create works for public broadcasting, either through a public television station or independently. It is an opportunity for these producers to work intensively on the skills that will benefit them most, through classes and through direct contact with some of public media's most talented personnel.
