"Recoloration Proclamation" at Harlem Stage - February 16th, 2011

This multimedia event is about the making of John Sims' film, Recoloration Proclamation, as a series of shorts quilted together documenting the artist's response to the Confederate flag. The film will explore his controversial work as well as the various public responses, and the complexity and counter-intuitive dynamics that frame the confederate flag around the issues of races, visual terrorism/pride and Southern Heritage.

Sims is a political polymath artist creating projects spanning  the areas of mathematics, art, text/performance and political-media activism. His main projects are informed by the vocabulary of mathematical structure, the politics of sacred symbols and poetry as ally to the visual arts. His work has been featured in Nature, Sculpture, NYArts, Science News, CNN , New York Times and the Washington Post.
