BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez captures the aestheticism of Sanchez's tone, the film pulsating with the rhythm of a voice mellifluously turbulent...
a documentary not to be missed...

"Sonia Sanchez is a lion in literature's forest. When she writes, she roars."
So said Maya Angelou about her friend and fellow poet. The prodigious Sanchez has been on the front lines of art and activism for 60 years--teaching, writing, performing, protesting. She was a pioneer of the Black Arts Movement, fought to establish the first university Black Studies program in the country, and has exerted a widely acknowledged influence on the Hip-Hop and spoken word movements. But, her commitment to justice for all people has come at a cost, and this intimate portrait captures the breadth of Sanchez's rich and often unsettled life.
BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez is a performance-packed film, featuring interviews and appearances by Questlove, Talib Kweli, Nikki Giovanni, Amiri Baraka, Ursula Rucker, Ruby Dee, Haki Madhubuti, Imani Uzuri, Bryonn Bain, Jessica Care Moore, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and more!
